James Hilleary (1924–2014) was a Washington, D.C.-born painter and architect associated with the Washington Color School. His architectural training strongly influenced his art, which is known for geometric abstraction, repeated linear forms and carefully considered color. Hilleary exhibited extensively throughout his career, and his work is held in collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum and The Phillips Collection.
